Do we need all this ‘stuff’?
I read a really interesting BBC video article about the burden of having to deal with the inherited belongings of family members. Older children find themselves in a position of ending up with a lot of stuff that gets passed down from generation to generation.
According to the Office for National Statistics, a quarter of the UK population will be aged 65 and over by 2050 and a house clearance company from Sturminster Marshall in Dorset, say they're finding it increasingly difficult to sell or give away people's possessions.
This process can be fraught with emotions, grief and guilt at ‘throwing away’ possessions that were important to somebody. With help it can be a really important process, a letting go which can be an incredible relief. It’s also worth bearing in mind that by developing habits early on, we can relieve our family members from that pressure in the future, they may be very grateful to you for it!
