The Environmental Cost of ‘stuff’

Environmental cost of stuff.

However, if you do want to explore the effects of clutter on our lives there are A LOT of fascinating articles out there. Choose with care! We are warned that it can affect out health and wellbeing.

‘Clutter is bad for your physical and mental heath. Too much clutter can be a fire hazard. Dust, mold, and animal dander that collect in cluttered homes are all bad for allergies and asthma'

Friends of the Earth have a good website which explains overconsumption and the effect that is having on the environment. As well as some interesting things to say about consumption and identity.

There is a lot of information and moment towards minimalism and how a life with less stuff could be a lighter one. But they stress it’s about living the life that is best for YOU, not one that strains to meet societies expectations, whatever form that comes in.

Some good advice on buying well and infrequently, it may cost a bit more in the short term but better quality will last a lifetime if looked after. Embracing imperfection; there is a lot to live up to, we can’t all have homes that look like magazines and maybe the more we try the more we waste in that effort. Work with the things you already have, show them in different lights, give them a reboot! You might find you don’t need to go out and buy something new. You may have that same sense of satisfaction, plus the feeling of having saved some money!

Or as David advises ‘Just don’t waste’.
